Physical Therapy
Studies show that 90% of the population experience back or neck pain at least once in their lifetime. Many people who have pain originating in the spine may also have pain that radiates into the arm, head and eyes as well as into their hips, legs and feet.
Goals of Physical Therapy
- To facilitate healing by reducing pain and inflamation and prevention of secondary problems.
Treatment may include modalities such as:
- ice
- heat
- ultrasound
- electrical stimulation
|
- To educate the patient on proper posture, resting positions and body mechanics.
- To educate patients on the principles of stretching and strengthening to restore muscular flexibility, joint mobility, and spine motion.
An exercise program may include exercises to be performed at home or in a warm water therapy pool. Exercises are aimed at increasing core strength and stability.
- To assist the patient in returning to normal daily activities by creating new body mechanics and daily stretching for life.
- To prevent future occurrences by educating patients on how to prevent relapses or how to manage relapses if they do occur.
